Childhood and Family Life

Debbie Bertrang-Piotter, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, was born and raised in Henderson, Minnesota. Growing up in an incredibly loving and supportive family, Deb's childhood was filled with joy and laughter. From a young age, she displayed a vibrant personality, possessing a unique blend of humor, wit, and athleticism that captivated those around her. With her infectious smile, Deb quickly became a beloved figure among her peers, known for her loyalty and protective nature towards her friends, particularly her "big" younger brother whom she shielded from bullies. She cherished her family deeply, never missing an opportunity to partake in family events. Graduating from Henderson High School in 1989, Deb's formative years were shaped by cherished memories and enduring friendships that continue to this day.

Motherhood

As Deb entered adulthood, she transitioned seamlessly into the role of a loving and protective mother. Her children, Tyler and Alison, were her pride and joy, and she made it her priority to ensure their well-being above all else. Known for her unwavering dedication and selflessness, Deb always put her children first, nurturing them with love and care. Throughout her professional journey, which spanned 27 years at C&S Supply in Mankato, followed by stints at Michael Foods and Post in New Hope, she balanced the demands of work with the responsibilities of motherhood, exemplifying her incredible strength and commitment.

Time with Dan and Precious Memories

In addition to her devotion to her children, Deb cherished her time spent with her partner, Dan, who brought immense joy and companionship into her life. Together, they created precious memories that they cherished deeply. Their shared love for adventure took them to places such as Nashville, Boise, the Grand Tetons, Colorado and Panama City Beach, where they enjoyed a final trip with their family in April 2022. Celebrating Deb's 51st birthday that same year, surrounded by a large gathering of friends and family, was a testament to the profound impact she had on those around her. Deb's infectious laughter and genuine love for life left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

A Courageous Battle with Cancer

Tragically, in August 2021, Deb's life took an unexpected turn when she began experiencing a range of distressing symptoms, including difficulties with mobility, communication, and memory. On August 9th of that year, she received the devastating diagnosis of a Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor at the renowned Mayo Clinic. Undeterred by the news, Deb faced her battle with courage and dignity, determined to protect her children and remain a source of strength for her loved ones. She embarked on a challenging treatment regimen of chemotherapy and radiation, followed by further rounds of chemotherapy, which continued until April 2022. Despite her valiant efforts, Deb's health gradually declined, leading to her admission into hospice care. On August 29, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family, Deb peacefully passed away.

In commemoration of the two-year anniversary of Deb's passing, we gather on August 24th, 2024 to honor her extraordinary life. This benefit serves as both a celebration of her enduring spirit and a fundraiser aimed at advancing cancer research and providing support to local families in need.
